the carry on essentials

Next weekend I am heading off on a little weekend jaunt to Barcelona, I feel so lucky and I am so excited. I can't wait to feel the warmth of the sun on my skin; I am feeling a huge vitamin D deficiency! Me being the typical Virgo that I am, has a full itinerary ready to make the most of the three days that we are there, please tell me I'm not the only one that does this? When taking a short haul flight I like to keep my carry on to the essentials and take a bag that I will then use whilst on holiday, anything that saves on suitcase space! Cue my favourite backpack from ASOS, it is surprisingly roomy, comfy to wear and ultimately safe from sticky fingers. I like to take anything that is hard to replace and I would struggle to be without in my carry. I've been stranded in sunny climates without sunglasses before and believe me...this is not fun. Therefore I carry at least two pairs with me, IPad, camera (which incidentally was being used to take these shots), this beautiful travel wallet from Aspinal, my diary that comes with me everywhere, the best headphones ever and of course my passport.
I can't step on a plane without a good book; this is one of my favourite things about flying.  Having two, four, six, eleven, however many hours of uninterrupted down time. It is a purely internet free zone, you have no choice but to completely switch off from the world and I find it exhilarating. Whether I while away the time reading, my current read is The Ice Twins, or watching film after film, a long haul activity, I love having time away from my phone.
This has become my travel lifesaver. Honestly I managed fine before Aspinal came into my life but now I couldn't be without it. I keep my passport, Dan's passport, tickets, my itinerary, money, boarding passes basically anything important and I love having it all in one place. I was very lucky to get this for my birthday but you can get some cheaper alternatives that are just as great on the high street too!

Writing this has made me even more excited for next week, if that's possible! If you have any recommendations of places to see, eat, drink and be merry in Barcelona please do let me know...

Juicy Juicer

Philips Juicer*

If you haven't fallen foul to the juice hype by now, where have you been? Whether it's on TV, in your local coffee shop or every other delicious looking photo on Instagram, juices are everywhere and I am not ashamed to say that I have fallen for the hype.

I was very kindly sent this Philips juicer and I have been using it non stop since. Once you've had fresh juice you realise how store bought fresh juice...isn't fresh at all. The thing I love about juices, you chuck everything is at it is, no chopping necessary, it couldn't be easier! The thing I love about this Philips juicer, it is SO easy to clean, hence why I've used it near enough every day.

The juice that I have been loving is a vegetable and fruit concoction that I've even got Dan hooked on (he usually steers clear of anything containing carrot!).

4 large carrots
3 apples (sweet)

  • Place the carrots in the juicer, then the apples
  • Mix together, pour into a glass add a stick of celery and enjoy
Could it be any simpler? Nope...and that's what's so great about it!

What's your favourite juice? I'm always looking for new flavours to try.
