RASPBERRY CUPCAKE RECIPE

Last weekend I fancied baking some cupcakes but I wanted to try something completely different, something that you don't tend to come across too often...cue raspberry cupcakes. These are so light, delicious tasting and, I think, would be perfect for afternoon tea.

Ingredients
makes 12
50g seedless raspberry jam
50g fresh raspberries
125g unsalted butter, softened
150g self-raising flour
2 medium eggs
100g caster sugar
1 tbsp. milk

For the topping
150g fresh raspberries - for decoration
125g unsalted butter
300g icing sugar
  1. Preheat your oven to 190C. Line your muffin tin with 12 paper cupcake cases.
  2. Mix the raspberry jam with the raspberries, lightly crushing the fresh raspberries. Put to one side until later.
  3. Beat the butter and caster sugar in bowl, using a whisk, until pale and creamy. Gradually whisk in the eggs and milk until just combined.
  4. Fold in the flour using a metal spoon until just combined and then carefully fold in the raspberry jam mixture until just marbled. Be careful not to over-mix. Spoon the mixture equally into your cupcake cases; about 2/3 full.
  5. Bake for 20 minutes or until risen and golden in colour. Allow to cool in the tin for 5 minutes then transfer to a wire rack and leave to cool completely.
Topping
  1. Reserve 12 raspberries for the topping.
  2. Mash the remaining raspberries in a bowl using a fork. Pass the mixture through a sieve into a bowl to remove the raspberry seeds. Put to one side until later.
  3. Put the butter into a bowl and whisk until fluffy. Gradually whisk in the icing sugar, a little bit at a time until all icing sugar has been added and the mixture is light and fluffy.
  4. Mix the raspberry mixture into the buttercream until combined.
  5. Fill a piping bag with the buttercream and pipe a swirl on top of each cake. Finally decorate with a raspberry.
After making and eating these I cannot wait to make more flavoured cupcakes, they really are a show stopper! If you do make these please share a picture with me on Twitter or Instagram

What is your favourite flavour cupcake?

Sunday Supplement: Sienna Style

Now I know we're only two months into 2015 but this year Sienna Miller's style has been sublime.

After being firmly off of the radar for a while she has certainly come back with a bang and not only that it seems like her style has matured somewhat. As much as I was a fan of the boho chic look that she wore oh so well her new look is much more me and I find myself drooling over everything she wears. Who wouldn't be drooling over that Golden Globes Miu Miu dress? It is unbelievably beautiful; a dress I could only dream of.

With this new ever so stunning style comes a haircut that only the genetically blessed could pull off. As much as I love it I know better than to run to the hairdressers asking for a copycat look! Maybe a grown out version could work...?

I for one will be keeping an eye on Sienna Miller's style as the year progresses; if this is anything to go by I will not be disappointed! Whose style are you loving this year?

February Wish List

I feel like this wish list is a true representation of my style, a little bit of everything. Whenever I am asked ‘how would you describe your style?’ I never know what to say, the first word that comes into my head is minimal, the second (words) it depends on the mood that I am in.

This year I am trying to buy items that have a lot of wear ability i.e. go with almost everything else in my wardrobe. Of course it's always nice to have those stand out items which is why I included the snake skin boots, I mean WOW, but I need to get my basics in order, I can then build on these with statement pieces. Creating the perfect Palermo inspired wardrobe. A girl can dream.

I feel each of these items are a statement in their own right but can be worn a number of ways, ergo I need to purchase them as soon as possible, preferably in the next week. That's not too much to ask is it? Oh and did I mention I am desperate for a pair of Stan Smiths? Well I am, so, so desperate…

What have you been buying this month? I am always happy to add to my shopping list!

Adidas Gazelles

It took me awhile to get into the trainer trend and, well, now I am completely obsessed. Dan bought me these Adidas Gazelle trainers for Christmas and they haven't left my feet since. I love them so much they even have their own dedicated post; if that isn't love I don't know what is! Unbelievably comfy, chic and compact I will definitely be buying more colours.

They aren't a trainer you see too much of at the moment but I have no doubt that will soon change, especially as I saw Alexa Chung in a pair of them recently! The next pair of trainers on my wish list are, Stan Smiths, I have dropped SO many hints I'm hoping they will appear soon...

Are you a trainers fan? What is your favourite style and brand?

Sunday Supplement: A Little Bit of Love

'To love oneself is the beginning of a lifelong romance.'

It feels like Valentine's Day has been on overdrive this year, right up until Friday evening I was getting Valentines related emails; 'order by 10pm and get your last minute gifts delivered first thing tomorrow, FREE.' 'No valentine this year? Treat yourself with 20% off!' It was a constant stream of sales tactics that quite frankly put me off wanting to buy anything. If you are buying gifts and you haven't got one by Friday evening I think it's time to give up and be honest...you forgot!

Now I have a boyfriend, I have mentioned him before, and we have been together for 6 years (in May) and whilst we don't hate Valentine's Day we have our own way of doing it and this is what I realised this year. I have seen so many people, single or taken, commenting about how commercial Valentine's Day is and how you don't need just one day to show you love you someone, yet those people, mainly the taken ones, are actually doing something to mark the day.  Whether you believe in it, love it, hate it, I bet you did something or there was some mention of the day.

That is the powerful thing of commercialism without you meaning to and despite your best efforts not to you will fall into its trap and there is nothing wrong with that! There is nothing wrong with secretly hoping, I won't tell anyone. Every year myself and Dan buy cards for each other but say no gifts, this year I received these beautiful flowers and some Lindt chocolates. They were a lovely surprise and I am the first to admit I was delighted; hey what's a girl to do in these situations? We then spent the day lounging in bed, watching film after film, followed by a takeaway and more films. For two people who have no time this was idyllic. Valentine's Day provided us with the perfect excuse to do nothing and not feel guilty about it, we were celebrating!

I suppose after that ramble, I promise I didn't plan to do this I sat down and it all just sort of came out, my point is; if you love the day, fantastic, make the most of it, flowers, balloons, champagne, chocolates, a nice meal, it only comes around once a year after all. If you 'hate' the day embrace it for what it represents (without all the gifts and gimmicks), showering your loved ones with, well, love, whether that's your partner, friends or family. Use this day as a reminder to give a little bit of love to those closest to you...starting with yourself.

I hope you all had a lovely Saturday whatever you did!

Vintage Cookies

I hope you don't mind another cookie recipe but these really did taste too good not to share. Deliciously soft and chewy with just the right amount of crunch...perfection! (Dan had a little fun stacking up the cookies, before I was allowed to eat them, so I promised I would include his photo!)

Ingredients
makes 18-20
225g plain flour
150g butter, softened
1/4 tsp of salt
80g light brown muscovado sugar
1/2 tsp of bicarbonate of soda
80g granulated sugar (normal every day sugar)
200g chocolate chips (whichever flavour you fancy)
1 large egg
2 tsp vanilla extract

  1. Line two baking trays with grease proof paper and preheat your oven to 190C.
  2. Beat the butter and sugar in a bowl until creamy. Beat in the vanilla extract and egg.
  3. Add the flour, bicarbonate of soda and salt into the mixture and mix together with a wooden spoon until combined.
  4. Lastly add the chocolate chips and mix together again with a wooden spoon. Your mixture should look like the second picture at this stage.
  5. Place small balls of the cookie dough on the baking trays spaced well apart as they will spread considerably during baking. I like to use a teaspoon to get similar sized cookies.
  6. Bake in the oven for 8-10 minutes or until light brown round the edges and soft in the middle.
  7. Remove from the oven, leave on the tray for a couple of minutes to firm up then move to a wire cooling rack.
This recipe is really simple yet utterly yummy; it has quickly become my go to cookie recipe. Yep even better than my Millie's cookie recipe! No matter how many I bake they never last more than a day so if you do bake these prepare for some very moreish cookies.

What would you like me to bake next on here? I promise I will leave the cookie recipes alone for a while, I am just a little bit of a cookie monster!

Pretty Valentine

“I am good, but not an angel. I do sin, but I am not the devil. I am just a small girl in a big world trying to find someone to love.”

I brought out some of my prettiest lingerie and perfume all in honour of Valentine’s Day, it's the least I can do right?

Lingerie has always had a big place in my heart, it's just so darn pretty and wearing a beautiful matching set can instantly lift my mood and make me feel ready to face the world. Different things for different people and all that! This pale pink lace set is the latest addition to my collection; it really is beautiful from the look and feel to the fit. This was the first time I had been to Boux Avenue and I was I was so pleasantly surprised I picked up the same set in black!

Worn with the original Chloe perfume and you have the ideal Valentines combination. This scent is romantic, fresh and indulgent, what more could you ask for on the 'most romantic day of the year'. The luxurious bottle and cute little bow top off this elegant perfume perfectly. We are actually planning a quiet night in this year, we've never been big Valentines people, but I will be wearing both of these under my fluffy bear dressing gown. A girl has to make little a bit of effort!

What are your plans for Valentine’s Day?

P.s. Marilyn Monroe is one of the most beautiful women I ever did see; of course she had to be included in my 'pretty' round up!

Chai

Oh grey, nude nails I do love you, after the shock of a red/black colour for a week (yes I did just say shock) I had to go back to one of my all-time favourite colours, Chai from Barry M. The fact that this is from their 'gelly' range just makes it even better.

As with all Barry M polishes it applies like a dream and the finish, especially with their gelly collection, is smooth and shiny. I managed a good seven days of no chipping with this which is amazing and perfect for me! I hate chipped nails yet I never seem to find the time to remove and repaint. This shade is so wearable, chic and perfect for every day, it is my go to when I want something that I know I will love.

What is your go too nail polish brand and shade?

Sunday Supplement: The Netflix Tag

The lovely Emily from Beauty and Lifestyle Blog tagged me in The Netflix Tag, read here answers here. As a 'closet' (blatantly obvious) Netflix obsessive what better tag to be my first? Yes this is my first tag, I hope you like it!

  1. What are your favourite series' to watch on Netflix?
Oh my what a hard question there are too many! Ok, I've narrowed it down to three; otherwise we would be here all day, The Vampire Diaries, Gossip Girl and Suits. A girl needs a bit of variety in her life.
  2. What are you currently watching on Netflix?
Apart from the above? Which yes I am still catching up on even though Gossip Girl finished about five years ago. I fancied a new more current series so I have just started watching American Horror Story; I am hooked and now have a huge girl crush on Emma Roberts.
  3. If you could have any series, old or new put on Netflix, what would it be?
Sex and the City, how is this not on Netflix already? The series to start all series', besides Friends, screams Netflix. I will never get board of this show and I am sure many will agree.
  4. What is your one peeve about Netflix?I think their series selection is brilliant but sometimes I do get a little frustrated with their movies. They don't update them that often and when they do it is very random! Maybe I am a little picky?
  5. What are your essentials for a perfect night in with Netflix?
A bag of doritos with salsa, my fluffy bear dressing gown, my Jo Malone pomegranate noir candle and some pop.
  6. Recommend one series or film for someone else.
A series I think everyone should watch is Suits, and make sure you come back and let me know if you're a Harvey or a Mike girl. I am suggesting this film purely for its ability to cheer you up, Wild Child with Emma Roberts, it is definitely a guilty pleasure but it never fails to make me feel better.
I tag:
alicekatex (alice)
Erin and Katherine
Miss Makeup Magpie (Gemma)
Ana Celine Labod

Are you a Netflix fan? What would you recommend I watch next?

Copper Touch

I love the raw, natural glamour that copper can instantly add to your interior. It has an unfinished yet lux look that I just can't get enough of. Available in a range of textures; super-shiny, weathered, aged, copper can bring a beautiful drama to your home. From the affordable to the downright ridiculous, copper is everywhere which means you can add this look no matter what your budget.

The best part...it works perfectly with my other current interior love. Marble. Put a copper bowl, clock, tray etc. onto my marble top side table and I swoon.

Are you a fan of the copper look? Which is your favourite piece?

Style Resolutions

I have seen this post floating around on a few of my favourite blogs and I instantly thought 'what a great idea', I am always making style resolutions in my head but never seem to stick to them. By telling you lovely people I am hoping that this is the year! Oh and I realise I probably should have done this post at some point in January but better late than never right?
  1. Be Confident
Now I don't mean confidence as a general thing here that is a whole other story. I mean be confident in the clothes that I choose and the outfit that I put on. Too many times I put something on, like it and then second guess myself, is this 'cool' enough, is this 'creative' enough. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I need to have more faith in my own style and own it, no matter what I am wearing.
  2. It's all about those Basics
I am a very pared back, simple, less is more kinda girl so it probably comes as quite a surprise that my basics collection is somewhat lacking. This year I intend to invest in good quality basics as they are a staple to a chic, wearable wardrobe. If you've got your basics right everything else just seems to fall into place (or so I am hoping). I am lusting after LnA but as a more affordable option I will probably turn to Cos!
  3. There is no Comfort Zone
On those days where I have overslept, stayed up too late watching The Vampire Diaries or just plain can't be bothered I can assure you this comfort zone will miraculously reappear. However for the most part I want to completely ignore my comfort zone, pretend it doesn't exist and create new looks, using my existing wardrobe and a few new bits here and there. If this goes well I am sure you will be seeing the results on here!
I think three is enough for this year! Have you got any style resolutions for 2015?

The Rock Chick

I have lusted after Charlotte Tilbury makeup since the launch back in 2013, the luxurious rose gold packaging and the promise of transformative makeup was enough to make any beauty addict swoon.

This Christmas I was lucky enough to get The Rock Chick gift set which included; an eye shadow quad perfect for smoky eyes, a full sized mascara, Kissing Kate lipstick, lip gloss, lip liner, blusher and a felt eyeliner. To make this set even more delightful it came with this complimentary makeup bag that isn't actually available to buy. I'm sure you can imagine how excited I was when I opened this; it is such a beautiful addition to my makeup collection. So far the quality of these products has not disappointed and I cannot wait to share reviews of each product with you.

It is by no means an 'affordable' makeup set but for the brand and what you get I think it is a good deal, definitely one for your next birthday list! Have you tried any Charlotte Tilbury products?
