I will start by saying that I love reading; I have done since I was a little girl and throughout 2014 I managed to fulfil one of my resolutions to find the time to read more. I also decided to branch out and read things that ordinarily I would have bypassed, which has led to some very interesting finds, starting with...The Cuckoo's Calling.
If you aren't already aware Robert Galbraith is a pseudonym used by the brilliant J.K. Rowling. The Cuckoo's Calling is the first in a series of crime novels written by the author following the down and out detective Cormoran Strike. We find Cormoran in the midst of a dangerous break up, a bucket load of debt and an unfamiliar lack of work. Just as things couldn't get any worse a lifeline is handed to Strike in the form of a high profile case of a model who fell to her death, a pronouncement thought suspicious by those close to her.
The Cuckoo's Calling is a brilliant read that will have you racing to the end to find out exactly how the troubled model died. I promise that your opinion on this will change drastically as you read on and you will not see the ending coming. As can only be expected from J.K. Rowling the writing is fantastic and allows you to seamlessly picture the story as you read with characters that you become invested in. Whether you love them or suspect them by the end you will definitely care their fate is. This crime novel is truly engaging, exciting and a believable story that I would highly recommend. J.K. Rowling proved that she is able to bring her 'magic' to a non-magical world.
Have you read The Cuckoo's Calling? What's on your reading list for 2015? I'd love some recommendations!
(Oh and if you do read The Cuckoo's Calling, make sure you come back and let me know what you think!)
