CHOCOLATE ORANGE COOKIE RECIPE

Terry's Chocolate Orange is my favourite chocolate so when I found this chocolate orange cookie recipe years ago I couldn't wait to make them. It soon became a firm favourite and I quickly realised what a crowd pleaser they are. This batch of 12 cookies lasted just one day! I don't think there is anything better than warm cookies straight out of the oven with a cold glass of milk; I'm drooling just thinking about it!

Ingredients
makes 10-12
110g unsalted butter
200g brown sugar
1 medium egg
1/2 tsp of baking powder
30g cocoa powder
165g plain flour
1/4 tsp of pure vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda
200g of Terry's chocolate orange cut into chunks

  1. Preheat your over to 195 degrees, line two baking trays with greaseproof paper and put to the side until later.
  2. Mix the butter, sugar and vanilla together until light and fluffy. Add the egg and beat in until it is fully incorporated.
  3. Add the flour, baking powder, bicarbonate of coda, cocoa powder and pinch of salt. Mix all the ingredients together until a dough starts to form.
  4. Finish by folding the chocolate chunks into the dough with a metal spoon until combined.
  5. Now the mixture is ready. Divide into similar sized balls and place on the baking trays. Spread out evenly leaving enough room for them to grow in size. Bake in the oven for 10-12 minutes until they start to crack on top.
  6. Remove from the oven and leave to cool on the tray for five minutes; they will harden a little which makes it easy to move them onto a wire rack to cool completely. If you can wait that long!
  7. Once cooled enjoy with a cool glass of wine or create a vanilla ice cream cookie sandwich. YUM!
If you do bake these cookies please share your pictures with me on Twitter or Instagram.  What are your favourite flavour cookies?

Shearling

Cheap Monday Jeans / Office Boots / H&M Polo Knit / Topshop Shearling Coat (similar) / Zara Bag / H&M Rings

I call this my Del Boy coat, I have had it for years and I still have so much love for it. It always makes me think of Only Fools and Horses which is never a bad thing...in my book! I am also having a bit of a love in with polo knits, I seem to be wearing them constantly, especially this oxblood ribbed knit from H&M. Sometimes they really do get it just right.

I am now on the hunt for a grey, forest green and black colour polo knit, if you have any suggestions of where I should go for them please let me know below!

What type of clothing do you love right now?

Sunday Supplement: Limbo

Snowy Walk / Inspiring Quote

I feel like I am in limbo, nothing is happening how it should happen and obstacles keep appearing in my way. Then I read my favourite quote and realise we have to make our own happiness, our own luck and our own dreams come true.

This month has been a long month and we still have one week to go, anyone else looking forward to the end of January? My shopping list has reached terrifying lengths due to an unplanned car payment, all other shopping, the fun shopping, has been put on hold until pay day. I don't know about you but I am VERY much looking forward to the beginning of February!

All in all I have had a quiet week. We have had lots of snow, I worked from home and because I didn't have to make the hour commute I could take the dogs for a walk in the light! The woods looked so pretty all snow covered. I baked my favourite chocolate orange cookies, they are oh so tasty and I came across Shea Maria, how this has taken me so long I don't know. Whether it's on her blog or her Instagram this girl has got some serious style and when you're constantly looking at dark grey English skies her stunning LA backdrops are a dream!

What have you been up to this week? Did you get snow where you are?

The Silkworm

If you read my previous book review of The Cuckoo's Calling here, you will know that I am a huge fan of Robert Galbraith (aka J.K.Rowling). This is the second book following detective Cormoran Strike as once again he takes on a peculiar case that has an extraordinary amount of suspects.

When a concerned wife contacts Strike after her author husband goes missing something about the worn out, penniless lady compels him to take on the case. When Strike uncovers the author's brutally murdered body, later finding his last unpublished novel, featuring 'poisonous pen-portraits' of everyone in his life, the list of suspects, including the wife, seems endless.

The Silkworm, if possible, is better than it's prequel; it is intriguing, follows on from The Cuckoo’s Calling seamlessly (as we know J.K. Rowling is the master of sequels) and quickly pulls you in. Throughout, I was adamant that I knew who the murderer was…I could not have been more wrong. Is there a better sign of a great detective novel? It is incredibly clever and intricately written without being wordy and difficult and it compels you from the get go. If you are looking for a book to read I promise this will not disappoint!

What are you currently reading? Have you read The Silkworm before?

Black Red

Barry M Nail Varnish in Black Red (similar) / Essie Lacy Not Racy

As you know I am a huge nude nails fan but every now and again I push myself to try something a little different. This time I reached for an incredibly old Barry M polish, I think I actually got this free at a Clothes Show years ago. Surprisingly it was still in good condition! I do love Barry M nail varnish, it is so easy to apply, the brush coats the nail without going all over your finger, it only requires two coats to get good coverage and I always seem to get around 5 days chip free, pretty good, right?

This deep burgundy red is a classic winter shade and I actually really like it, the exact one I am wearing is no longer available to buy so I have linked a couple that are very similar. I think I am going to purchase the Essie one as well!

What is your favourite winter nail shade?

Leopard x Pocket London

Topshop Coat / Pocket London Tee / Topshop Jeans / Aldo Backpack / Topshop Boots

I woke up Sunday morning and thought, this is what I am going to wear today, do you ever do that? Most of these items I have had for over a year and yet I have never put them together before, some I haven't even worn, how strange! I fell a bit in love with the result, and can see myself reaching for this outfit on those days where I just don't know what to wear. Oh and this backpack is one of my favourite presents ever, it is just perfect...

Do you have an item of clothing that always gets you out of a 'I have nothing to wear' moment?

Sunday Supplement: This Week

Bachelorette / Santa Monica Pier / Cappuccino

This week has been a funny ole week, Dan is in the second week of what we think is a vertigo type illness so leaving the house is few and far between for him. Because of this we have watched an unnatural amount of movies, I think we are averaging two a night (during the week) and around 3 a day on a weekend, if you need any recommendations I am definitely the person to come to right now! Out of this week’s list of movies there is one that has really stood out for me and I have actually watched it twice, Dan fell asleep the first time around.

Bachelorette staring Kirsten Dunst, Lizzy Caplan, Isla Fisher and the hilarious Rebel Wilson is, I think, incredibly underrated. Now don't get me wrong you would not want these three women as your friends they are all completely self-centred and because of that bad things do happen, but this comedy is very cleverly funny. I read somewhere that it is Bridesmaids meets Girls and I think that is a fair comparison, it's Bridesmaids naughtier, grittier sister. If you are after a non-slapstick comedy film I would highly recommend Bachelorette, it's definitely one for a girly night in.

A very exciting thing also happened this week, we booked our summer (March) holiday, 'shakes with excitement', we are going back to LA for a week and then on to Mexico for a week. We went to LA around two years ago now, we loved it and have wanted to go back ever since. It's only 9 weeks away and I am so excited there aren't even words. If you have been and have any recommendations of places to visit please let me know!

Finally I had to share this rather large and delicious coffee with you from a cafe called Cappuccino, I don't usually drink coffee but this tasted unbelievable. If all coffee tasted this good I would definitely be hooked, I am just trying to think of an excuse to go back...soon.

I hope you all had a good week! What did you get up too?
